Sir F. Lascelles to Sir Edward Grey.--(Received March 5.)
Berlin, February 24, 1906,
ON receipt of your despatch No. 24 of the 15th ultimo, I duly addressed a note to the Imperial Government, informing them of the instructions which His Majesty's Government had sent to Sir Ernest Satow with reference to the Chinese Trade-marks Regulations.
I am now in receipt of a reply from Herr von Mühlberg, translation of which I have the honour to inclose herewith, informing me that the Imperial Government likewise consider that the amendments proposed by the Chinese Government in Articles 18, 20, and 21, and in the matter of fees, are quite inadmissible, and that the Imperial Minister in Peking has received instructions to this effect.

THE Undersigned has the honour to acknowledge, with an expression of sincere thanks, the receipt of the note of the British Ambassador, Sir Frank Lascelles, of the 19th ultimo, respecting the Chinese Trade-mark Regulations. After examining the counter-proposals made by the Chinese to the proposals of the Ministers, the Imperial Government agrees with the British Government in arriving at the conclusion that the amendments suggested in Articles 15, 20, and 21, as also in the fees, are inadmissible.
Whilst adding that the Imperial Minister at Peking has received instructions in this sense,
the Undersigned avails, &c.
